What are the crucial factors in choosing a high quality watch?

Brand
However conformist you may think it is, choosing a well-established watch brand is more likely to still exist two years later to provide the security of spare parts delivery.
Finish
Take a moment to check the finish in the flesh to ensure the craftsmanship is to a high standard; if you observe bumps or scratches this may be a signal to look elsewhere.
Water resistance
Water can easily ruin a watch, hence a good quality watch is generally deemed to have a 10ATM water resistance. Always opt for a water resistant watch so you can swim with it.
Glass
Sapphire glass is a priority for a good quality watch, maintaining its clear, sleek surface though scratch resistance – watches made of this will inform you on the dial or the back of the watch. However, if this is out of your price range, mineral or crystal glass will serve well, being often around £20 cheaper.
Case
316L Stainless steel is the staple of a quality watch case – it is moisture resistant, so skin irritation and material wear are no issue. To prevent discolouring over time, a PVD coating should have been applied. Both of these factors should be checked with the seller as they are rarely indicated on the watch.
Those wishing for even greater wear resistance, and can afford the hefty price tag, may prefer titanium or ceramic.
